Cordoba’s jaw dropping La Mezquita mosque was originally built in the 8th century by Moorish caliph Abd Al-Rahman I on the site of a Visigothic, Christian church. When Cordoba fell to the Christian kings in the 16th century, a cathedral was built, rising from the middle of the ancient mosque.
The colourful streets of Cordoba’s medieval Jewish quarter (Juderia) are not to be missed. Cordoba once had a thriving Jewish population, that was then pushed out during the Inquisition.
