The Dome of the Rock is one of the most holy sites in all of Islam. Muslims believe that the prophet Muhammad rose to heaven with the angel Gabriel on a winged chariot. Jews and Christians alike believe the stone housed inside, often called the Foundation Stone, to be the site where the prophet Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son.
